But at the Inuneko Jinja or “dog-cat shrine” within the Zama Shrine in Kanagawa prefecture south of the capital Tokyo, shiba inu dogs dressed in kimonos attend the ritual with their owners. The celebration, meant to reflect the deep bond between pet owners and their animals, has been gaining popularity amid Japan's falling birth rate.

We want to offer the pet owners a place at Zama Shrine, where they can than God as their dogs and cats reach the agree of three, five and seven, and receive blessings so that they will have healthy and prosperous lives together.
The history of Zama Shrine dates back to the 6th century.
It set up a dedicated prayer site for pets and their owners in 2012.
