Swiss students at the Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ) broke the world acceleration record.
The previous record was 1.462 seconds, set in September 2022.
Eloi Roset: I'm ver happy that in the team of AMZ Racing
we have achieved our tareget of breaking the world record in acceleration for electric vehicles.
We achieved from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in less than one second, actually in o.956 seconds.
We actually did it three times in a row, so we were quite confident that the car can do it consistently.
The hand-built car is called mythen.
One of the biggest challenges was producing the huge amount of stable power output needed.
The team used carbon and aluminium honeycomb materials to make a lighter car.
They also selected a racer whois small and lightweight.
Eloi Roset: It just bursts.
Everything has to happen within one second and it has to be able to withstand that.
So it's quite different cncept overall, especially the aerodynamics that were completely new.
Like was never had done something like that before.
Traditional Formula One cars rely heavily on aerodynamics.
But the AMZ team came up with a new approach to ensure traction right from the start.
A special device similar to a hoover holds the vehicle to the ground by suction.
