The Paris Olympic Games officially closed on August 11, 2024, at the Stade de France. Hollywood star Tom Cruise jumped from the roof and passed the baton to Los Angeles, which will host the Games in 2028. The closing ceremony was held at the Stade de France on August 11.

The stage was still being built less than an hour before the ceremony began.

Olympic fans from all over the world gathered at Paris City Hall for the finale.

French swimming sensation, Leon Marchand carried the Olympic flame. Marchandwon 4 gold medals and 1 bronze during the Games. Six athletes, including Chinese table tennis player,Sun Yingsha helped extinguish the flame. The mayor of Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Games received the Olympic flag. Karen Bass is the 1st black and female mayor to receive the flag during a closing ceremony. Hours before the ceremony, athletes were seen leaving the Olympic Village.

 

RhasidatAdeleke: It was really nice, it was my first Olympics, so everything was new to me and just being here was an amazing experience. I met so many people, I got to see the whole hype about being at the Olympics and it lived up to the hype. And you know, on the last day today, it’s kind of sad. You know, it’s all over, something that you built up to for so long and it’s just like that. But I’m really happy to have been here. I’m happy to have been a part of this Olympics.

 

Around that time, a climber was arrested for scaling the Eiffel Tower.

The last gold of the Games was won by the US women’s basketball team. Team USA finished on top of the overall medals table with a total of 126 medals. China finished 2nd, with 91 medals. The US and China each won 40 gold medals.
