When Isla Glaser¡¯s mom collapsed in the kitchen, the four-year-old called 911 herself, used a chair to let police in and made sure her younger siblings were taken care of. The police department is honoring the young girl for her calm during a crisis.
TRANSCRIPT:
Dispatcher: 911. Where is your emergency?
Girl: Um, my mommy fell down and she can't talk.
Reporter: One thinng is clear from the start, the caller is a little girl.
Dispatcher: How old are you?
Girl: Four.
Reporter: It was just before 8:00 a.m., Isla Glaser's mother collapsed in the kitchen, the 4-year-old called 911, herself.
What runs through your head when tou realise she's just 4 years old?
Dispatcher: Oh, man, it's crazy.
Reporter: Also in the New Jersey home at that time, Isla's 2-year-old sister and 1-year-old twin brothers.
Now, what are you thinking?
Dispatcher: This is not good.
Reporter: When officers arrived, the family's dog starts barking and there's a problem. The door is locked. Isla is too small to unlock it.
Girl: I can't reach it.
Reporter: So, she pulled the chair over to open the door and returned to help her siblings.
Police Officer: She was feeding them their breakfast. She said, it's gonna be okay. She just had this calmness about her.
Reporter: Today, she was honored by the police department and her mom, Haikey.
Isla's Mother: I¡¯m grateful that she wasn't nervous, um, when she made the call.
