Wiping sunscreen off your skin more important than
applying it
Using sunscreen to protect your skin is essential as the
weather gets hotter and the sunlight grows stronger. One thing to keep in mind
is that fully washing off sunscreen is even more important than applying it
properly, because screen residues can often harm your skin. Simply using soap
and water is not sufficient. The main ingredients of sunscreen, such as titanium
dioxide and zinc oxide, can remain on the surface of the skin and cause pimples
and other problems by blocking the pores. They can also attract dirt and leave
skin red or irritated, and enlarge the pores.
To wash off sunblock
completely, it is better to massage your face with an oil-based cleanser like
cleansing oil and cream first, and then wash with cleansing foam or soap. Unlike
women, men tend to wash their faces with soap only. A study showed that
sunscreens with a protection factor of over 15 are not completely removed by
water-based cleansers. Meanwhile, a sunscreen with a factor of over 30 and at
least PA+++ is recommended for outdoor activities, and be sure to apply it every
three to four hours.
