Taxi drivers go on strike in protest against launch of Kakao ridesharing application
Tens of thousands of taxi drivers across the nation are on a 24-hour strike as of four a.m. Thursday to protest Kakao's planned launch of a carpool application, claiming it will have a significant impact on their livelihoods.
Members of the Korea National Joint Conference of Taxi Association also say they will take part in a rally at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul at 2 p.m.
The strike is expected to cause traffic chaos in major cities including Seoul, especially during rush hours.
